We are a group of like-minded South African professionals living in Seoul who meets regularly to expand our ideas and advance our experiences in order to make our time in Korea as successful and memorable as possible, as we improve our quality of life and those of our community members.
We are always looking for new people to join our growing venture. Any and all with an interest in Korean and South African business and culture are welcome. Please let us know if you are interested in what we do or have any questions.
Our mission is to conduct activities to increase and further develop bilateral trade between the two countries with the prospect of stimulating, promoting and meeting the needs of business and industry. SAfCham will host events to promote a favorable business climate, network opportunities and to support the interests of our members. It includes providing information, support and advocacy for our members.
Tim is a South African-British attorney who moved to South Korea in 2013. He is a senior foreign
attorney at DR&AJU LLC (a Seoul based Korean law firm) and is appointed by the Korean Ministry of
Justice as a counselor to advise and support Korean SME’s doing international trade. Tim works
closely with KOTRA, KITA, KISA and the Korean African Foundation to promote trade and industry
not only between Korea and South Africa but also Korea and Africa.
Board Member
Roddy is a South African who has been in South Korea for 18 years. He has a Degree in Sport Science and also a degree in Education, both from North West University in South Africa. He and his partner Chris Truter opened Braai Republic a South African style restaurant in the heart of Seoul, Itaewon in 2011.
Deputy Chairman
Justin is a South African actor, TV personality, and entrepreneur based in Seoul. He has contributed to the Korean entertainment industry with his participation in various films and TV programs as an MC. In addition to his acting career, he has also co-founded two companies and is engaged in the technology startup sector. In 2019, he became a part of the South African Chamber of Commerce as the events coordinator, and currently holds the position of deputy chair. Justin believes in the potential for mutual learning and growth between South Africa and Korea, and is honored to play a role in promoting economic development for both his home and adopted country.
Events Coordinator
Heal Ross is from South Africa. He is a science major obtained from Stellenbosch University and specialized in Aquaculture. He worked as a laboratory manager in South Africa for 2 years and found his passion as an elementary school teacher upon coming to Korea, teaching English for the past 6 years. A passionate individual who ventures in all different fields of communication and upholding a standard of excellence at all times.
Student Liaison
Flower has been an educator in South Korean for the last 7 years and focused her energy on promoting South Africa within her own groups and network in Korea. She is part of the Sakornet committee that hosts events and supports the South African community in Korea.
Treasurer
Cuyler Meyer is a South African and business owner in South Korea. Before moving to Korea he worked in the finance industry, specifically in investment fund administration. He was the senior member of a team which administered some of SA’s biggest hedge funds. He moved to Korea in 2012 to teach English and to get out of his comfort zone back home. While teaching at a private institute in Seoul, Cuyler spent his free time teaching business English to business executives.
Board Member
Chris is a South African who has been in South Korea for 14 years. He has a Degree in Biochemistry from Stellenbosch University, and a MA in English Education from Dankook University. He and his partner Roddy Bancroft opened Braai Republic, a South African style restaurant in the heart of Seoul.
Director of Corporate Relations
Catherine Kim is a Director of Corporate Relations at SAFCHAM. As the Director of Corporate Relations, Catherine liaises with Korean companies and Korean governmental entities regarding SAFCHAM events or South African delegations to Korea, with the goal of the enhancing South African representation in Korea. She is also a U.S. qualified lawyer in the Africa Team at DR&AJU LLC.
